Nikolai Alexandrovich Sysoev was a Russian and Soviet painter, Honored Artist of the RSFSR, and People's Artist of Russia. He graduated from the Surikov Moscow State Academy Art Institute in 1948, where he studied under V. V. Favorsky, I. I. Chekmazov, and M. F. Shemyakin. He worked in portrait, landscape, and still life genres, and was the author of genre paintings and the "Leniniana" series. He founded an art gallery in the village of Lev Tolstoy, Lipetsk region. Since 1949, he was a regular participant in all-Union and Moscow exhibitions. His works are held in the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Historical Museum, the Tver Regional Art Gallery, and other collections.
