Ivan Vasilyevich Sorokin was a painter, landscape artist, People's Artist of the RSFSR, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts, and laureate of the I. E. Repin State Prize of the RSFSR. He graduated from the V. I. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute in 1952 under S. V. Gerasimov. He became a member of the Union of Artists of the USSR in 1953 and served as secretary of its board. Known for his landscapes celebrating the beauty of nature, his works are held in the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and other collections. He was awarded the Order of Honor, gold medals from the Russian Academy of Arts, and a medal for the 200th anniversary of A. S. Pushkin.
