The Sèvres porcelain manufactory is a symbol of French porcelain that played a decisive role in the development of European ceramic art. Founded in 1738 in Vincennes, it was moved to Sèvres in 1756. From 1759, the manufactory became royal property and the primary supplier of porcelain for the Versailles court. Throughout its history, its output has reflected the styles of Rococo, Classicism, Empire, Biedermeier, and Art Nouveau. It is currently under the administration of the French Ministry of Culture.
