Pyotr Dmitrievich Pokarzhevsky was a Russian and Soviet painter, graphic artist, educator, and professor at the V. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute. He studied at the Kiev Art School and the Higher Art School under the Academy of Arts with Y. F. Tsyonglinsky, G. R. Zaleman, and N. S. Samokish. In the 1920s, he organized art workshops and a museum in Tula. He taught at the Moscow Art and Pedagogical College "Memory of 1905"; his students included Tahir Salakhov and Nikolai Sysoev. His work focused on thematic paintings in a realistic style. His works are held in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, and other major museum collections.
