Pyotr Pavlovich Ossovsky was a People's Artist of the USSR and Honored Artist of the RSFSR (1970). He graduated from the V. I. Surikov Moscow Art Institute (1944–1950), where he studied under S. V. Gerasimov. From 1971, he served as the First Secretary of the Board of the Union of Artists of the RSFSR. Ossovsky's work is characterized by a romantic perception of reality, dynamic composition, and strict color schemes. Notable works include 'On the City Outskirts' (1957), the 'Cuba' (1961–1963) and 'Mexico' (1963–1964) series, and 'Fishermen of Lake Pskov' (1972). He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor. His works are held in the collections of the State Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, and other major museums.
