Jack of Diamonds

Vladimir Nikolayevich Nemukhin (born 1925, Priluki village, Kaluga region) is a Russian artist and a representative of nonconformist art. From 1943 to 1946, he studied at the Moscow Art Studio of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions, where, under the guidance of P. E. Sokolov, he was introduced to Post-Impressionism and Cubism. Nemukhin actively participated in unofficial exhibitions, including the 1974 'Bulldozer Exhibition'. Following his early landscapes and abstract experiments, the artist developed a unique style characterized by 'still lifes with playing cards,' which became a distinctive manifestation of Art Informel. At the turn of the 21st century, he lived primarily in Düsseldorf while maintaining professional ties with Russia. His works are held in the collections of the Tretyakov Gallery and the Moscow Museum of Modern Art.
