At the Mosque in Bukhara

Boris Nilovich Litvinov (1872–1948) was a Russian artist, orientalist, and Major General of the White Army. Born in Kostroma, he graduated from the Kazan Cadet School. During his service in Turkestan (from 1893), he created over 300 sketches of architectural monuments and local landscapes, as well as a series of drawings of Bukhara carpets published in A. A. Bogolyubov's album. In 1908, he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. A veteran of World War I, he was a recipient of the Order of St. George. In exile (from 1920), he lived in Belgrade, painting icons, landscapes, and battle scenes. In 1945, he was extradited to Soviet authorities and died in the GULAG camps.
