Alexander Ivanovich Laktionov was a Soviet painter and graphic artist, People's Artist of the RSFSR, and a full member of the USSR Academy of Arts. He studied at the Academy of Arts in Leningrad under I. I. Brodsky. He taught at the Leningrad Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture and the Moscow Correspondence Pedagogical Institute. He is known as a genre painter and portraitist. His painting "Letter from the Front" (1947) was awarded the USSR State Prize. His works are characterized by precision in drawing and attention to detail. Notable works include a portrait of V. I. Kachalov, "To a New Apartment," and "Secured Old Age."
