Holy Family with the Infant Christ and St. John the Baptist

Son and pupil of Jacopo Tintoretto, one of the greatest masters of the 16th-century Venetian school. At the age of 17, he became a master of the Venetian Painters' Guild, participated in the execution of large canvases for the decoration of the Doge's Palace, and worked as an assistant in his father's workshop. Throughout his career, he painted numerous religious subjects for Venetian churches and monasteries, as well as portraits. After his father's death in 1594, he took over the family workshop, where his brother Marco, sister Marietta, and the German artist Bastian Casser also worked at various times. A painter and draftsman, many of Domenico Tintoretto's works were previously misattributed to his father. Today, his works are represented in many major art collections worldwide, including museums in Washington, Vienna, Paris, Boston, Edinburgh, London, Milan, Venice, Copenhagen, St. Petersburg, and Moscow.
