Yakovlev Boris Nikolayevich

Boris Nikolayevich Yakovlev was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1962), corresponding member of the USSR Academy of Arts (1958), and a member of the CPSU since 1960. He studied at the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (1915–1913) under A. M. Vasnetsov and A. S. Stepanov. He was a member of the AKhRR (1922–1932) and taught at VGIK (1956–1963, professor from 1960). Boris Yakovlev is considered a founder of the Soviet industrial landscape ("Transport is Improving", 1923; "Cranes are Advancing", 1958–1959). His works are characterized by a broad painting style and impasto texture.
