Tyshler Alexander Grigoryevich

Tyshler Alexander Grigoryevich

1898
Alexander Grigoryevich Tyshler was a Soviet theatrical designer, painter, and graphic artist, and an Honored Artist of the Uzbek SSR (1943). He studied at the Kiev Art School (1912–1917) and became a member of OST in 1925. Tyshler's work is characterized by metaphor, decorativeness, and elements of fantasy. In his theatrical designs, he often used transformable structures reminiscent of the stages of folk street theaters. Some of his easel works are marked by mystical symbolism and an expressionist perception of reality. Notable works include the set designs for 'King Lear' (1935) and 'Freilekhs' (1945, USSR State Prize), as well as the series 'Makhnovshchina' and 'Fascism.' He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor.
