Gerasimov Sergey Vasilyevich
1885 — 1964
Sergey Vasilyevich Gerasimov was a Soviet painter, People's Artist of the USSR (1958), and a full member of the Academy of Arts of the USSR (1947). He studied at the Stroganov School and the Moscow School of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture under S. V. Ivanov and K. A. Korovin. He is known as a master of landscape and genre painting. Key works include 'Peasant Woman with a Rooster' (1924), 'Oath of the Siberian Partisans' (1933), and 'Mother of a Partisan' (1943). He taught at leading art institutions in Moscow. From 1958 to 1964, he served as First Secretary of the Board of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He was a laureate of the Lenin Prize (1966).
