Varichev Ivan Mikhailovich
1924 — 2016
Ivan Mikhailovich Varichev was a Soviet and Russian painter, People's Artist of the Russian Federation, and a member of the Saint Petersburg Union of Artists, known as a master of landscape. A veteran of the Great Patriotic War, he was awarded the Order of the Patriotic War (1st class), the Order of Glory (3rd class), and various medals. In 1957, he graduated from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture (workshop of Yuri Neprintsev). His style evolved from traditional plein air painting toward impressionistic generalization of form. His works are held in the collections of the State Russian Museum, the State Tretyakov Gallery, and other museums worldwide.
