Nesterova Natalia Igorevna

Natalia Igorevna Nesterova (1944–2022) was an Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, a laureate of the State Prize of the Russian Federation, and a professor of painting at the Russian Academy of Arts (since 1991). She was one of the most recognized artists of the 1970s. She was awarded the 'Triumph' prize and the Honorary Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts. From 1988, she lived primarily in the USA. She participated in over sixty solo and group exhibitions, and her works are held in the Tretyakov Gallery, the State Russian Museum, the Guggenheim Museum (New York), the Ludwig Museum (Cologne), and other international collections. Her work often drew on primitive aesthetics, utilizing local color and simplified composition. Her genre paintings are frequently filled with satirical pathos, and her urban landscapes resemble scenes from the theater of the absurd, reflecting the complex world of human experience.
