Litvinov Boris Nilovich
1872 — 1948
Boris Nilovich Litvinov (1872–1948) was a Russian artist, a Major General of the White Army, and an orientalist. Born in Kostroma, he graduated from the Kazan Cadet School. He served in Turkestan, where he studied the history and geography of the region, creating over 300 sketches of architectural monuments and landscapes. In 1908, he studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts. A veteran of the First World War, he was awarded the Order of St. George. During the Civil War, he commanded White Army units in Turkestan. In 1920, he emigrated to Yugoslavia, where he painted icons, landscapes, and battle scenes, and participated in exhibitions. In 1945, he was extradited to Soviet authorities and died in the GULAG camps.
