Fomichev Vasily Osipovich

Vasily Osipovich Fomichev (1924–1992) was a Russian realist painter, landscape artist, and Honored Artist of the RSFSR. Born in the village of Elkhovka, Saratov Region, he studied at the Saratov Art College (1939–1942, 1945–1947) under B. V. Milovidov, V. F. Gurov, and I. N. Shcheglov. From 1947, he worked at the Saratov branch of the Art Fund of the RSFSR. A member of the Union of Artists of the USSR since 1960, he served as Deputy Chairman of the Saratov branch (1979–1989). His work is inextricably linked to the Volga and the nature of Central Russia. He was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor (1976). In 2003, the V. O. Fomichev Art Gallery was opened in Saratov.
