Flemish School

The Flemish school of painting is an art movement that formed in the southern Netherlands provinces. At the end of the 16th century, the region's art was influenced by Italianizing trends, but the true flourishing of the school is associated with P. P. Rubens (1577–1640). Rubens created an original style that combined the study of classical Italian art with national characteristics, powerful forms, rich colors, and vitality, which defined the development of Flemish painting for a century.
