Brodsky Isaak Izralievich

Isaak Izralievich Brodsky (1883–1939) was a painter, graphic artist, and Honored Artist of the RSFSR. He studied at the Odessa Art School (1896–1902) and at the Academy of Arts under I. E. Repin (graduated in 1909). He was a member of the Union of Russian Artists (from 1910) and the Association of Artists of Revolutionary Russia (1923–1928). A pioneer of Soviet "Leniniana," he was known for his historical paintings and portraits. He received a gold medal at the 1933 Munich exhibition and a Grand Prix in Paris in 1937. From 1934 to 1939, he served as director of the All-Russian Academy of Arts. He was awarded the Order of Lenin.
