Birshtein Max Avadyevich

Max Avadyevich Birshtein was a painter, author of portraits, landscapes, still lifes, and genre scenes. He studied at the V. I. Surikov Moscow State Art Institute (1935–1942) under I. E. Grabar, G. Shegal, and D. Mochalsky; he was influenced by R. R. Falk. He was a laureate of the All-Union "My Contemporary" competition (1972), a recipient of Moscow Union of Artists diplomas (1975, 1978), and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Arts (1999). His works are held in the Tretyakov Gallery, the Russian Museum, and other collections.
